Have you seen the movie 2012? In this vlog, Joel gives you a preview of the movie shares his thoughts on what would happen to the deaf community if what the movie suggests actually comes true. Would deaf people continue to unite in the face of adversity, as we have in the past with civil rights for deaf people? For example, in what used to be Yugoslavia, there is still a lot of political unrest today; however, representatives from each country came together to put aside politics and religions and focus on the rights of deaf people in the region. Joel asks if that type of sentiment will still happen if the world is faced with a catastrophe that would wipe out our technology and accessibility services.

Our rights are still “alive” through NAD’s fighting to protect our rights but…Deaf people are not included in America or World history books “Still for years”…Deaf Gone is on its way now because mainstream deaf students grow in public school or college before our future rights are destroyed by war or hurricane…How strong is NAD right now? More hearing people, who are not expert in ASL, are now working at the NAD building? You are right we think NAD needs to do something…

That is very interesting! I like your comment idea hints. I watched that movie it called 2012 last friday night since I arrive home from movie late night and my thinkings.. I’ve been watched all the film part of important which it influence people make to think change their life like Begin of the Cycle Life. My thought-out how would it will Deaf-Hard of Hearning and peoples not in part 2012 film. If there should be SAVE for Deaf People and Deaf Cultures including history..For example One man who wanted to switch and replace the frame gallery of the Da Vinc from France. How could it be difference? Isn’t it worth for people who are values like Deaf’s? What do you think if the 2012 are part of Ethic cleansing relates Deaf World and Deaf people?

My husband and I went to the movie and saw “2010” it made us thrill and a little scare. We did not see where are the DEAF people…. All the people need to repend and ask the LORD to get your sin away and forgive. All the people need to read the Bible every verse daily also attend to the church. We can’t wait for the Lord raptures. All of us did not know when? Only the Lord knows.

LOL, God will not destroy the Earth again because in the Bible God will only do it once when Noah of Ark came. People are paranoid and silly about 2012!! They are just an attention and moneymaker to come out with something fantasizing. People who are worried or scared really have no FAITH, even for Christians and that is sad!! We will have 2013 and Beyond…the ending will never come for another millimneum!

Deaf always come back. Mother Earth has power. Human Being is very behind in understanding about human nature. We impossible overcome Mother Earth. Mother Earth design deaf for unique reason. If we lost deaf history, I am not worried cuz when deaf people come back they will express in ART…painting,writing, drawing, dancing and MORE that Art speaks about history. For example Aboriginal people of North America has lost ten thousand years of history..they did not write a book or history. However since aboriginal have arts in dance, draw pictures, they speak about their history. Do not forgot Snake, Butterfly are also Deaf. Right now I am reading an interesting book called The Celestine Prophecy. One thing I know so far is that LOVE Is ALWAYS eternity.

hello i saw the movie 2012 i am nutty about future science and also bible prophecy i never thought about the deaf cultures until i saw joel about the movie and deaf people not there. well remember that most of the time directors never have thoughts about minority of people they think they were “god” in their way i tell you not to worry about the 2012 movie the end is not coming at 2012 but be guard and watch be ready for the coming of jesus or rapture
The movie is overly exaggerating about how it would end but it WILL happen according to the Bible’s prophecy. It will be soon and it will be this generation. How exciting to behold the face of Precious Savior that is Jesus Christ, my Lord!
As for exlusion of deaf population in the movie, it is obviously intentional. They do not care to preserve the cultures of miniorities.

Nice show.. End on my birthday 12-21-2012? Nah! I believe we will face the world war with the stronger weapons and the world will not be end in 4 years. The earth may end up like Mars next week or million years later, When we lose the moon and the earth will not stay on the axle forever like the other planets. The moon is moving away about 1 1/2 inches ever year or the asteroid hit us. For the deaf may not forever because we build the TV with CC. Same thing we can build the cc. in your ears or eyes. We can read our brains and no need to talk like the Alien! We may live without the earth soon. Bless the Earth!

Only thing I can see from the movie’s screenwriter/director and general public’s view poor or lack of appreciation what deaf culture can contribute in the future of mankind. Perhaps we should “elevate” our status quo on who should be collected and put in the “boat” to re-populate after disaster of epic proportions.
We need to Enhance and Demonstrate that our deaf knowledge,skills, and Ability (KSA) are INVALUABLE contribution to mankind. (give examples – if any one of the survivors or future generation become deaf – who will teach them how to survive in sound based new world and sign language language skills? (real bonafide deaf person can provide training/language/education/technology for deaf – (should be among List of valuable scientists and experts on the boat.) We should take away the Stigma that deaf individual(s) has no contribution to future. We DO but they haven’t seen it. We should show we have a place in “new” world. (what will we give in “if scenario” in new world.) That should change their minds.
Secondly, if all else fail to be considered to be among the “perfect species”, We should be self sufficent to get together with other groups to create “All Others Boat”. It should include deaf/blind/physical challenged experts of all faith and race. We can get our own Darn boat that includes the owner of DeafNation to entertain rest of us. 😉
Simple… So simple… The only reason why you don’t see any deaf people lined up in preparation is that none of them could afford the 1,000,000,000.00 Euro admission…
Show me a deaf person who can afford that! Maybe after peddling 500 million ABC cards will they be able to purchase one or two tickets…
Thank you for the insight regarding 2012. The movie is a technmical wonder. Will this day ever come? Maybe, maybe not. But, if it does, there will a major epedemic where people of every race, creed, religion, ethnic background, and handicap will either accept the end and go along with it or will fight for their will to live. It was the wrong message that only the government and high powered people accepted onto the ark. if you looked, there were people in wheelchairs being wheeled in ark after agreeing to let all people in. What they meant by “all”, is a skeptical concept. That it effects the deaf and blind culture because there was no visual aspect of it in the movie. But I truly believe whenh they say’ “all”, is anyone and everyone who has survived the event up until the entrance to the ark. Live or Die, deafness will be in this world for eternity.

I carefully studies the 2012 theory (six or more theories – 2012 12 21 or 2012 21 12 at 11:11am, earth ‘s wobble, etc) … Mayan calendar does not say that world will be end as fact, just turn into new cycle (next 5125.36 years cycle) similar to the modern yearly calender. If you want more information on the 2012 theory, go surfing thru the search tool online to analyze and research.
Only might destroy the Earth is HUMAN if any types of lab or research gone wrong – bio genetic engineering, bio- weapon, nuclear energy, coring the deep sea bottom for better energy source, antimatter implosive and what more??? Who know that they did that or not?? Truth is out to figure out the facts. That is not laughing matter.

This 2012 does not scare us. The truth is Nobody know what will happen or end of the world even as Jesus Christ will not know too, only God the maker of the universe himself knows the time and day the world will end.

I’m glad you brought this subject “DEAF GONE?” up, no matter what date it will be. We need to prepare for “what if?”, not just because we all are going to live forever. 2012 is fiction because they make a movie from the Mayan calendar has accurate end of their forward to end but I believe that will happen, of course because the Bible say so !

Let’s hope that none of those will happen in year 2012. I do not frequently take things lightly because anything can happen. speaking of not including minorities in movies like this movie, we, the deaf community or it’d be nice of NAD get involved, contact movie associations encouraging them to include the minorites in all movies because in our daily life, we have everyone every where like deaf consumers at grocery stores, clothes stores, fast food restaurant etc. In most movies we saw, it looked like that Earth is the most perfect planet with perfect people, which is unrealistic. Is it possible that the movie people are informed of the idea? I hope I get my idea across to you all…
You know movie 2012 made you scare . You remember that Man make is not perfect. I read a Bible book; Matthew 24: 36 = Jesus says But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my father [God] only. Just I knew only ,when world get worse bad serious then Jesus coming but we not know when !, but not 2012 .
